Enter Psalm 119, quietly carrying a flashlight.

The psalmist isn’t polished or put‑together. He pants for God’s word. He asks to be taught, ordered, rescued, and shown mercy. Let what was planted on Monday find some light today.
Lord, order my steps.
Let Your face shine.
Keep me from mistaking noise for truth.

Jesus tells a story about wheat and weeds in Matthew 13:24–30, 36–43. Both grow in the same field until harvest time. The field is mixed. The roots are tied together. If we rush to pull up the weeds, we may pull up the wheat too.

This does not mean we ignore evil. It means we stay humble. We speak the truth. We work for what is good. But we also remember that we do not see everything clearly. There is wheat and weed in us, too.

Paul says that all creation groans and waits to be set free in Romans 8:18–25. We know that groaning. We hear it in pain, fear, loss, and the deep wish for things to be made right. Hope does not deny the groaning. Hope brings it to God.

So we come to the Lord’s table not with easy answers, but with open hands. Bread and wine remind us that the weeds do not get the last word. The harvest belongs to God.

Then we are sent back into the field to bear good fruit: justice, mercy, patience, and care. We hope, not because the field is clean, but because God is faithful.

This Sunday, look ahead through the beautiful imagery of Psalm 65: watered earth, softened fields, joyful hills, and valleys so full they practically burst into song. It is a psalm for anyone who has arrived at the end of the week feeling a little dry, a little stretched, or a little more “crispy around the edges” than they’d like to admit.

The good news is that God knows exactly what to do with dry ground. God visits it. God waters it. God softens it. God blesses it with growth. Renewal does not begin with us trying to squeeze one more drop of energy out of ourselves. It begins with God drawing near and tending what is weary.
